Summary
The first two episodes of the BBC and History Channe; series, written and presented by historian Simon Schama, are on this tape. BEGINNINGS: A journey across 4,000 years offers the world of prehistoric Britain. The journey starts in Skara Brae - a world of the embyonic village. Succeeding generations remained largely indigenous, trading with the continent but not dominated by the Celts. The Romans found many and varied people living in the isles and started a trend - invasion that resulted in only a change of leadership, not wholesale migration. CONQUEST!: Without William the Conqueror's 1066 victory, Britain may well have been a province of Scandinavia. But after the Norman Conquest, Britain became part of the Anglo-Norman empire
