Summary
In this volume of the BBC and History Channel series, written and directed by Simon Schama, are the last two episodes of the first season. KING DEATH: A great social transformation arises out of the dust of the Black Death that decimated the British population. Councilors and courtiers who speak English as well as their first tongue run the king's government and work with a Parliament comprised of members of the rising gentry class. This, combined with the arrival of the printing press, create the coming of the Reformation, and, later, the Industrial Revolution. BURNING CONVICTIONS: To solve his own demand for a divorce, Henry VIII - a Catholic - breaks away from the Pope and declares himself the head of the church of England, thus providing the groundwork for the Protestant doctrine that allows no room for Catholicism
