- "Las cartas del presente volumen ... se ordenan en cuatro bloques perfectamente delimitados por las cuatro estancias distintas que estructuran esta etapa final de la vida lúcida del filósofo, a saber: la primera, en Niza, que comprende de octubre de 1887 a marzo de 1888 ...; la segunda, marcada por el gratísimo descubrimiento de la ciudad de Turín, que ocupa la parte central de la primavera de ese año, los dos meses enteros de abril y mayo; la tercera, la estival, en que el filósofo retorna a los Alpes suizos ... donde vive un verano tan extraño que casi parece un invierno, durante los meses de junio, julio, agosto y bien avanzado septiembre, con lluvias e inundaciones que retrasan el viaje; y la cuarta, la recta final, desde la última semana de septiembre hasta la primera de enero de 1889, de nuevo en la maravillosa y tonificante capital piamontesa, a la que llegará el 8 de enero el fiel Overbeck para recoger al amigo, llevarlo de regreso a Basilea e ingresarlo en una clínica" [..] "contiene las cartas y borradores que este escribió desde el 23 de octubre de 1887 hasta el 6 de enero de 1889.
