Summary
For many years, Professor Barry Cunliffe and a team of archaeologists have excavated and investigated the 2,500-year-old Celtic hill fort of Danebury in Hampshire, England, which was last occupied before the Romans arrived in Britain. This production looks at the new breed of archaeologists, who, by using the latest and increasingly sophisticated research tools, tease out the secrets of Danebury to provide a picture of Celtic society that is every bit as rich as that given by the impressive ruins of Greece, Egypt, and Rome. From the scant evidence in the ground (the remains of buildings and the rubbish left behind), Professor Cunliffe's team is able to answer complex questions about social structure, patterns of the farming economy, religious practices, and political structures of the last preliterate tribal society in Britain
