- "This work was suggested by the interest felt in Mr. Prime's litle book, the hymn, 'O Mother Dear Jerusalem' ... some trivial errors are corrected, an dtwo versions of the Dies Iræ are added. The seven translations [of the Dies Iræ] now given will render the English exposition of the Great Hymn complete."--To the reader [p. (v)-vi (dated New York, June, 1866)
- Contents reverses order "Stabat Mater" and "Mater Speciosa" from order in text
- Maroon-to-orange cloth [cotton or linen (sand-grain)] cover on chamfered boards. Cross emblem debossed on front (gilt) and back (blind). Title "The Seven Great Hymns" on spine bordered with motif from church architecture; head and tail intertwine decorations (gilt). Mustard - colored endpapers
