- Summary
- Contemporary philosophical concern about our notion of rationality is, not surprisingly, largely preoccupied with issues of relativism -- with the possibility that what is true or reasonable might be relative to particular cultures or periods of time. Relativism is a major challenge to reasonʹs traditional pretensions to universality; to its capacity to yield ultimately true representations of one real world. The claim that reason is male, in the context of current philosophical debate, must inevitably conjure up the idea that what is true or reasonable for men might not be so for women.-- Back cover
